Morocco’s Foreign Minister Joins International Libya Conference in Paris

The Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, is in France to participate in the work of the International Conference on Libya, scheduled for this Friday in Paris.
Morocco’s participation in this international conference is part of the continuation of its support for efforts to bring the different points of view of the Libyan parties closer together. Thanks to its foreign policy based on the principles of peace and security, the kingdom has played a pivotal role in the negotiation process of the Libyan conflict to bring the warring parties closer together, recalled the MAP.
This process led, on December 17, 2015, to the "Skhirat Agreement", in the presence of the representative of the UN Security Council. This agreement is currently seen as the only framework to allow an honorable way out of the Libyan crisis.
Engage in effective actions
According to the Elysée press release, the proceedings of this Friday aim to provide international support for the continuation of the political transition underway and the holding of elections scheduled for the month of December.
For the first time, this conference is being held in an expanded format to include all of Libya’s neighboring countries. It "also aims to support Libya in its request for the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries," the Elysée said, adding that on the economic front, the conference will have to "recall the need to unify Libyan financial institutions and to implement a fair and transparent distribution of the country’s wealth".
Finally, "on the humanitarian level, the conference will reaffirm the collective commitment to strengthen the support of the international community to meet urgent needs and fight against human trafficking," the same source added.
Elections, the ultimate solution for peace
Recently, during the high-level debate of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita stressed that Morocco "will continue its efforts towards a peaceful solution to the crisis in Libya".
He also stated that "the Kingdom is convinced of the utmost importance of holding elections in Libya as a decisive step towards the achievement of peace", adding that "Morocco is ready to provide the necessary support in coordination with all Libyan institutions".
Thus, for Morocco, respect for the election schedule (presidential and legislative) is the only solution to get out of the crisis in Libya.
