Morocco forced to feminize the management of its national team

During a meeting held on Thursday, the council of the organization validated an unprecedented regulation. Each national team participating in its competitions will have to include at least two women on its bench, one of whom will be required to hold the position of head coach or assistant coach.

This measure aims to correct a glaring imbalance. During the 2023 World Cup, Morocco, like Argentina, Colombia, France, Haiti and the Philippines, participated in the tournament without the slightest female presence in its technical staff.

The deployment of this policy will begin in September during the U-20 World Cup in Poland, before being generalized. Jill Ellis, head of football, justifies this obligation: "There simply are not enough women coaches today. We need to do more to accelerate change".

The president of the institution, Gianni Infantino, also supported this transition towards more parity to offer more opportunities.
