Morocco Fines Viatris $760,000 for Failing to Report Merger

The American pharmaceutical giant Viatris Inc. is being fined 7.58 million dirhams (about $760,000) by the Moroccan competition authority. The reason: the group did not notify its creation resulting from the merger between Mylan and Upjohn (Pfizer) in 2020, as required by the regulations.
The fine, which represents 2.5% of Viatris’ turnover in Morocco in 2022, has been paid to the Moroccan treasury. The company has chosen not to contest the decision and will not appeal, Reuters reports.

This conviction is part of the Moroccan authorities’ desire to strengthen the control of concentration operations. The regulator announces its intention to examine other mergers that have not been notified, including the joint venture between OCP and Fertinagro Biotech, as well as Whirlpool’s acquisition of activities by the Turkish Arçelik, the same source specifies.
