Morocco Fans Outraged as Cafes Double Drink Prices During Africa Cup of Nations

Supporters and fans of the Moroccan team denounce some cafe owners in the kingdom who, taking advantage of this period of the Africa Cup of Nations, have doubled or even tripled the prices of drinks. They call on the competent authorities to take action.
These Moroccans have expressed their discontent with the greed of some cafe owners who are raising the prices of drinks on the occasion of the Moroccan team’s matches at the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. To consume a soft drink in these establishments during the broadcast of the matches, these fans of the Atlas Lions claim to pay up to 50 dirhams.
An exaggerated price increase, denounce observers who call on the competent authorities to strengthen controls and take firm measures against these unscrupulous cafe owners. They invite them in particular to organize surprise checks in various cafes during the broadcast of the Moroccan team’s matches, in order to verify the prices of the drinks and to sanction those who would have increased them by proceeding to the withdrawal of their license or the closure of the establishment.
In addition to undermining the purchasing power of citizens, this price manipulation causes the state to lose significant tax revenue, as the owners of these cafes only pay taxes based on the actual prices. A situation of tax evasion and fraud that goes unnoticed.
