Morocco Faces Surge in COVID-19 Cases, Experts Call for Urgent Measures

Faced with the surge in cases of contamination, voices are rising to call for the adoption of urgent measures to avoid an uncontrollable epidemiological situation. This is the case of Dr. Tayeb Hamdi, a researcher in health policies and systems.
Emergency measures for an out-of-control situation. This is the necessary step to achieve control of Morocco’s epidemiological situation. "We are facing a worrying situation after months of efforts and positive results. However, we can prevent the epidemiological situation from becoming completely uncontrollable by adopting emergency measures immediately," explained Tayed Hamdi, in a statement to the MAP.
He urges Moroccans to change their behavior and calls on the authorities to review the methods of managing the pandemic, especially by strengthening communication. This could help contain "the acceleration of the epidemic in several regions of Morocco". He warns against a more serious epidemic crisis, with "a possible increase in figures in the first week of August due to the complications that preceded and accompanied Eid Al-Adha and the effects of the easing of the health lockdown".
Dr. Hamdi also called for increased screening tests, isolation and monitoring of "contacts" for a period of 10 days, stressing "the need to involve private sector doctors in the screening system". He also called for the generalization of the download of the "Wiqaytna" application and the proximity of screening centers to citizens in order to "encourage people to get tested".
