Morocco Faces Surge in COVID-19 Cases, Considers Stricter Measures

Morocco could adopt in the coming days even more restrictive measures than those taken at the very beginning of the pandemic. There is an exponential increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus, as well as an increase in critical cases and the number of deaths.
The scenario so feared regarding the coronavirus pandemic is unfortunately presenting itself. In a few weeks, the number of infections has reached the level recorded during the first three months of the pandemic. The concern is at its peak among the authorities, scientific experts, who "warn against the arrival of an unprecedented wave of cases and outbreaks of contamination". Statistics for the period from July 30 to 31 show more than 1,000 infected people. Morocco is approaching the "30,000 confirmed cases and 7,000 active cases predicted by the Ministry of Health," reports le360.
According to Dr. Azzeddine Ibrahimi, director of the Biotechnology Laboratory Center at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Rabat, several factors explain this proliferation of infection cases. "The virus was able to reach the elderly and those with chronic diseases with the increase in positive cases after deconfinement."
He also mentions the case of asymptomatic people. "They are 85% to show no symptoms of coronavirus infection and only discover it after reaching critical stages often leading to death." In third place, the high contamination of young people. "They develop severe cases and become dangerous carriers for the most vulnerable contacts."
Faced with this rapid and massive resurgence of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health is sounding the alarm, stating that "this evolution of the pandemic requires the imposition of more stringent preventive measures."
