Morocco Faces Shortage of Anti-Venom and Rabies Vaccines Amid Heatwave Dangers

In Morocco, while scorpions, snakes and stray dogs are claiming victims during this heatwave period, vaccines are lacking. Many hospitals, health centers and clinics in rural areas are suffering from a severe shortage of anti-venom serums and rabies vaccines. Noureddine Kchibel, a deputy of the Rassemblement national des Indépendants (RNI), has addressed a written question to the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Aït Taleb.

The shortage of anti-venom serums and rabies vaccines is a concern for Noureddine Kchibel. "The systematic exclusion of the inhabitants of the rural world in the province of Taounate in the health sector is reflected in the inability of the provincial hospital, as well as most of the centers and clinics in the province, at the beginning of this week, to provide the rabies vaccine to administer first aid and emergency care to save human lives. The clearest proof of this is what happened in the province when stray dogs attacked several douars, resulting in the death of a child following their bites, and injuring more than fifty other children," lamented the RNI deputy in a written question addressed to the Minister of Health. This incident has caused great fear and concern among the inhabitants for their children and the spread of infection to families, he said, recalling that two girls died last year due to the lack of anti-venom serums for scorpion stings.

Kchibel then asks Khalid Aït Taleb what measures his department intends to take to provide rabies vaccines in the hospitals, health centers and clinics of the Taounate province to protect the lives of citizens, allow them to benefit from emergency health services, and relieve them of the material and moral costs of travel. He also pleaded for the provision of anti-venom serums for scorpion and snake bites, especially at the beginning of the summer season when these fatal incidents are frequent.
