Morocco Faces Sharp Rise in Red Meat Prices Amid Drought and Subsidy Cuts

Red meat prices have risen in Morocco in recent weeks. Here is the reason.
The price of a kilo of beef has reached 95 dirhams, an increase of more than 3 dirhams, while that of lamb meat has been set at 105 dirhams, an increase of 10 to 20 dirhams.
This increase is due, among other things, to the end of subsidies on the import of livestock and lambs, the rise in world market prices of animal feed, and the severe drought that has been hitting Morocco for a few years.
The inflation in red meat prices will severely affect Moroccan consumers who are about to enter the holy month of Ramadan, lament consumer associations, calling on the government to quickly find a viable solution to this situation.
