Morocco Faces Public Toilet Shortage Ahead of Major Sporting Events

The glaring lack of public toilets in several cities and regions of Morocco is causing harm to people who have difficulty relieving themselves in a suitable place in the city.
Civil society actors have denounced the concentration of public toilets in upscale neighborhoods, calling on local authorities to equip cities and regions of the kingdom with public toilets before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco and the 2030 World Cup that it will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
The lack of public toilets is particularly felt in Casablanca, according to residents interviewed by Alyaoum24, who claim that the current public toilets no longer meet minimum sanitary standards. Aware of the situation, the municipal council is preparing, in collaboration with the Casa Environnement company, to open new public toilets that comply with standards and norms, we are informed.
In an oral question addressed to the government, the deputy Mohamed Hammani of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), insisted on the need to build public toilets and sanitary infrastructure along classified roads, as well as in city centers, particularly in public spaces, in the perspective of the two sporting events that Morocco is preparing to host.
