Morocco Faces Potential Loss of 13 Million Covid Vaccine Doses Due to Low Uptake

Morocco’s vaccine stock would be threatened by expiration. If nothing is done, the kingdom could throw away more than 13 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine because they have expired. The scientific vaccination committee has issued an alert to the authorities.
In Morocco, the low daily vaccination rate recorded in recent weeks could well affect the national vaccine stock, reports Hespress, citing Mustapha Ennaji, a member of the scientific vaccination committee.
According to the scientist, the committee has expressed its concerns about the growing risk facing the kingdom with the reluctance of some to get vaccinated. The situation is very critical, he stressed, noting that the validity of the vaccines varies between one and six months.
"The logic of vaccination is now oriented towards the use of the vaccines closest to the damage, to avoid a stock shortage," he pointed out, adding: "If this continues, people will not be assured of being protected, while Morocco is required to find new financial resources for the acquisition of vaccines."
For the record, the vaccines cost Morocco more than six billion dirhams until the end of September last. Also, the kingdom is preparing to launch its vaccine manufacturing project before the end of the year according to official forecasts.
