Morocco Eyes Bargain Castles as Spain Lists 500 Historic Properties for Sale

Morocco is reportedly seeking to acquire castles at affordable prices in Spain. Some 500 castles are for sale in the Iberian Peninsula, according to a recent report by the Spanish Association of Castle Friends.
A 12th century castle in Cáceres, or that of Castilnovo (Segovia), in which Juana de Castilla resided or which has recently served as a setting for the wedding of content creator Lucia Pombo, are for sale. The selling price of the latter castle is 15 million euros, reports Huffpost.
Alongside these overpriced castles, others are offered at affordable prices of 79,500 euros. Their "owners are looking to get rid of real ruins," explains Pablo Schnell, director of the Spanish Association of Castle Friends, to the media Almasse.
According to the Moroccan authorities, the interest in acquiring this type of property lies in the fact that it "is exempt from property tax". But on condition of submitting an application and not carrying out commercial activities inside the castle, details Ángel Pro Castro, director of visits and cultural events of the association.
