Morocco Extends Subsidies on Essential Goods, Easing Cost of Living Pressures

The Moroccan government has decided to maintain subsidies for butane gas, sugar and flour for the 2024 fiscal year, the budget for which is estimated at 16.36 billion dirhams in the 2024 Finance Bill (PLF).
The Executive confirms its intention to maintain the compensation system in 2024. The 2024 PLF indicates that the State will continue to support, in a "progressive approach", the prices of butane gas, sugar and soft wheat flour.
Pending the publication of a detailed document on this compensation, the Ministry of Economy and Finance specifies that the compensation burden, including support for road transport, fell by around 34% this year (January-August) compared to the same period in 2022.
