Morocco Eases Restrictions on Hammams and Car Washes During Ramadan

The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, has instructed the governors of the regions and the prefects of the prefectures and provinces of the kingdom to review the decision to close hammams and car washes depending on the water situation in their territories.
Thus, the governors and prefects of several regions and provinces have taken new decisions modifying the opening hours of car washes and hammams to allow these establishments to open every day of the week during the month of Ramadan, according to the website Al3omk, citing the example of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region where public baths are now open from noon to 1 a.m. and car washes from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
This measure was taken following the recent rainfall that has helped reduce water stress in several regions of the kingdom, explained the Minister of the Interior, stressing that it also aims to relieve employees in the sector who were disadvantaged by the decision to close hammams three days a week.
Abdelouafi Laftit made this announcement in his response to a written question from MP Fatima Zahra Bata of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) parliamentary group regarding the decision to close public baths three days a week. These measures "have allowed citizens to become aware of the importance of water and the need to treat this vital resource with rationality and responsibility," Laftit said.
Despite the short implementation period, these measures have produced "fairly satisfactory" results in terms of water rationalization, the minister added, insisting on the need to continue efforts to achieve the expected results.
