Morocco Extends Diplomatic Hand to Tunisia, Aims to Strengthen Maghreb Ties

Just after being sworn in before Parliament, the new President of Tunisia, Kaïs Saïed, received at the Carthage Palace in Tunis the President of the House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, and the President of the House of Councillors, Hakim Benchamach, who came to bring the brand new President the message of congratulations and wishes for success for this term that carries all the hopes of the Tunisian people and neighboring countries.
In a statement to MAP, following this interview, Habib El Malki said he had conveyed a message from King Mohammed VI to the Tunisian President.
"Morocco," according to the same source, "was keen to recall the depth of historical relations, the high quality of bilateral relations for decades and also how much it wants to preserve excellent relations with all the countries of the Maghreb region. In a globalized context marked by very significant economic and commercial turbulence, the creation of a Maghreb regional entity becomes an imperative for survival," he insisted.
For his part, the Tunisian President, Kaïs Saïed, while thanking King Mohammed VI for his initiative to send a delegation to the ceremony of his inauguration, expressed his wishes for good health and prosperity to the Moroccan people.
While emphasizing "the depth and strength of the historical ties between the two countries," President Kaïs Saïed reaffirmed Tunisia’s willingness to further strengthen its relations with Morocco by exploring new formulas and concepts of cooperation in all areas.
The Head of State also emphasized the common future of the peoples of the Maghreb, stressing the importance of promoting the common action of the Maghreb and activating the institutions of the Arab Maghreb Union, in order to open new horizons of cooperation for the peoples of the region and promote integration between the countries of the Maghreb.
