Morocco Extends COVID-19 State of Emergency Until October 10 Amid Case Surge

Faced with the resurgence of Covid-19 cases, the Moroccan government has extended the state of health emergency until October 10, 2020.
The government council on Wednesday adopted draft decree N°2.20.631 extending the validity period of the state of health emergency throughout the national territory to deal with the coronavirus. "Today, the government council approved a draft decree extending the validity period of the state of health emergency throughout the national territory to fight against Covid-19," tweeted the government council, Saâdeddine El Otmani.
The extension of the state of health emergency throughout the national territory covers the period from Thursday, September 10 at 6 p.m. until Saturday, October 10 at 6 p.m. Targeted emergency measures such as the re-containment of the city of Casablanca will be taken. "We risk being overwhelmed by the virus. Therefore, drastic measures are required, otherwise the situation risks being uncontrollable in the coming days," warned Health Minister Khalid Ait Taleb on Sunday.
As of Wednesday, September 9, 2020, the official report shows 77,878 cases of contamination, 59,723 recoveries and 1,453 deaths.
