Morocco Extends COVID-19 State of Emergency Through January 2022

Morocco has decided to extend the state of health emergency from December 31, 2021 to January 31, 2022, as a prevention against the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
This measure was taken at the end of the cabinet meeting held on Thursday, December 23, announced Mustapha Baitas, government spokesman, during the weekly press briefing.
He added that this extension of the state of health emergency will notably preserve the gains recorded in the context of limiting the spread of the virus at the national level, especially with the emergence of new variants of Covid-19.
To this end, the Ministry of the Interior is empowered to take, in light of the epidemiological situation, all appropriate measures at the national level, while the walis of the regions and the governors of the prefectures and provinces are able to take all necessary executive measures at the level of a prefecture, province, municipality or more, in order to maintain public health order, said Baitas.
