Morocco to Extend COVID-19 Aid for Informal Workers and Unemployed

In Morocco, the granting of direct aid to the underprivileged classes (working in the informal sector or unemployed) is about to be extended for several months.
The extension of the granting of this aid is currently at the study stage, reports Maghreb Intelligence. This measure will allow these social classes to cope with the cost of living in these times of covid-19. These underprivileged classes have benefited from the same aid (800 dirhams, 1000 and 1200 depending on the size of the households) between the months of April and June.
But the Moroccan government will have to meet the demands of the unions. They are demanding unemployment benefits for the next three months. "The government will evaluate the sectors of activity and proceed on a case-by-case basis," explain sources, who indicate that the cost of this unemployment benefit will be very heavy to bear for the National Social Security Fund (CNSS).
