Morocco Explores Submarine Acquisition, Weighs European and Russian Options

Morocco wants to strengthen its Royal Navy with the purchase of a submarine. In addition to offers from the French group Naval and the German TKMS, the kingdom is also studying the Russian option.
Naval Group offers the Scorpène submarine to Morocco, while the German company TKMS wants to sell its Type 1400 submarine to the kingdom. But in addition to these two offers, Morocco is also studying the possibility of acquiring the Russian "Amur" class submarine. The recent rapprochement between Rabat and Moscow and the expressed interest of the two countries to strengthen their cooperation in various strategic areas, particularly in energy, agriculture and defense.
The acquisition of a submarine is an imperative for Morocco, which is seeking to balance the power relations in the Mediterranean. The Royal Navy does not have a submarine, while its Algerian and Spanish counterparts each have at least one. Between France, Germany and Russia, who will provide Morocco with its first submarine? For the moment, the kingdom seems to have the embarrassment of choice. The technical performance of the models, as well as the offers proposed, will undoubtedly allow it to make a decision.
