Morocco Experiences Unseasonable Heat Wave as Temperatures Soar 5°C Above Normal

The National Meteorology Directorate (DMN) provided explanations on the rise in temperatures recorded in several regions of Morocco in recent days. It also produced new climate projections.
Temperatures exceeded 21°C in most regions of Morocco at the end of last week. According to the explanations of the National Meteorology Directorate (DMN), these temperatures were 3 to 5°C higher than normal for this time of year.
Over the past few days and over the weekend, a weather situation characterized by an anticyclone over Morocco has led to a stabilization of the climate and an increase in temperatures, the DMN said, noting that the region continued to be influenced by high pressure, contributing to the warming of the earth and air during the day under the effect of the sun’s direct rays and the absence of clouds.
Temperatures more than 5°C above average were also recorded in southern and central Morocco, due to the ascent of hot air masses from the Sahara towards these regions. According to the new DMN projections, they will be slightly lower on Monday and Tuesday. Thus, temperatures ranging from 15 to 21°C will be recorded this Monday in the Atlas and the Rif, between 27 and 31°C in the central plains and the interior regions of Souss and the southern provinces, and between 21 and 27 degrees Celsius in the other regions.
From Tuesday, Morocco will experience a gradual drop in temperatures until they return to their seasonal levels.
