Morocco Expels Elderly Sahrawi Activist and Journalist from Western Sahara

Morocco has expelled Mohammed Salem Busaraia, 72, a historic member of the Sahrawi collective of Lanzarote and the dean of the Sahrawi press, from Laâyoune. The "Doctor" had moved to his hometown to spend his old age there.
Busaraia arrived in Laâyoune by plane, accompanied by two of his children and a brother, to reside there until the end of his life. He would have been arrested while at the home of a niece where a party was being organized to welcome him. The agents asked him to accompany them to the airport to complete a final formality concerning his fingerprints.
People present opposed this arrest, forcing the agents to use force to maintain order, before taking the old, visually impaired man to the airport and putting him alone and without assistance on the same plane bound for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. On arrival, he was admitted to the Doctor Negrín hospital where he is still hospitalized, reports Diario de Lanzarote.
By this act, Morocco shows its "inhumanity," denounce the Sahrawi collective of Lanzarote and the Delegation of the Polisario Front for the Canary Islands, stressing that it is a "cruel revenge" to prevent a sick person from spending his last days in his hometown with his loved ones. Born in Laâyoune, Busaraia joined Madrid in 1973 to pursue his studies in educational sciences at the Complutense University. He joined the Spanish Communist Party and later the International Communist Party.
