Morocco Expected to Achieve COVID-19 Herd Immunity by Late 2021, IMF Official Says

Even though Morocco is considered the best country in the MENA region in terms of vaccination against Covid-19, the much-hoped-for herd immunity for a return to normal life will be achieved in the last quarter of 2021. This is what Roberto Cardarelli, head of the International Monetary Fund mission in charge of Morocco, said during a recent webinar.
During this virtual meeting which had the theme: "Global Economic Forecasts: What Prospects for Morocco and the MENA Region?", the IMF official stated that "the performance recorded by Morocco during the months of February and March has been amazing in terms of acquiring and distributing vaccine doses to its population.
However, the IMF official noted that the vaccination process is currently slowing down in the Kingdom due to delays in supply by certain suppliers. The immunity expected for the end of June, according to the minister, will finally be achieved at the end of this year.
Vaccination is, according to him, a very important element for Moroccan tourism more than any other country, given the importance of tourism for Morocco. The revitalization of the tourism sector, which has been quite battered by the coronavirus pandemic, depends in part on the success of the vaccination campaign.
