Morocco Expands Traffic Laws with New Vehicle and Road Safety Offenses

New provisions have been introduced in the Moroccan Highway Code. This change comes with the application of new offenses added to those already provided for by law.
The offenses contained in the new provisions of the Moroccan Highway Code will be sanctioned with the utmost rigor, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. The same source reports that some of these offenses do not concern driving but the technical condition of the vehicle.
With these new provisions, motorists will no longer be able to place cameras inside their vehicles, except in the back seat, reserved for passengers, in order to avoid distracting the driver during driving.
Another new offense punishable by a fine is the absence of a horn inside the vehicle. To this are added the wiper blades, not forgetting the turn signal which becomes mandatory as a direction indicator. The new offenses also take into account the hazard lights, made compulsory, so as not to disrupt traffic for other road users.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), a few weeks earlier, had adopted a system for managing Transactional and Flat-Rate Fines (ATF) concerning road traffic violations. These new DGSN rules aim to make the application of the Highway Code more efficient, without losing sight of better transparency and good governance in road safety.
