Morocco Expands Rural Electrification: 22,000 Homes to Gain Power by 2023

The rural electrification program will take into account, between 2020 and 2023, the electrification of nearly 22,000 social housing units. The Minister of Energy, Mines and Environment announced this on Monday in Rabat.
It was in response to an oral question on "the electrification of the rural world" asked at the House of Representatives that Minister Azziz Rabbah took the opportunity to address the issue of electrification of social housing. He stressed that this program aims to electrify 850 villages, or nearly 22,000 homes. He added that 531 markets are under construction and 125 calls for tenders have been launched, while 202 others are awaiting the signing of partnerships with the rural municipalities concerned.
According to the data published by Azziz Rabbah, the electrification of certain regions is at a very advanced stage. For example, it is 99.14% in the Béni Mellal region, 99.80% in Casablanca-Settat, 99.50% in Drâa-Tafilalet, 99.50% in Fès-Meknès and almost 100% in Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab.
In recent years, Morocco has made enormous achievements in the field of rural electrification. According to the minister, these significant achievements are setting an example and have led to partnerships with research centers.
About 12.7 million people have been able to access electricity in rural areas for an investment estimated at 30 billion dirhams, the minister said.
