Morocco Expands Military Capabilities with 150 Israeli-Made Drones, Plans Local Production

Morocco has acquired 150 WanderB and ThunderB drones, manufactured by the Israeli company BlueBird (50% owned by Israel Aerospace Industries - IAI) and plans to buy as many more Israeli UAS drones, some of which will be produced locally.

The WanderB is an electric-powered drone that can take off and land vertically. It has a flight endurance of two and a half hours and can reach a speed of 50 km/h with a maximum take-off weight of 13 kilos and can reach altitudes up to 1,000 meters and operate even in adverse weather conditions, says Infodron.

More complete, the ThunderB is a drone with a range of over 12 hours, which can reach a speed of 150 km/h with a maximum take-off weight of 35 kilos and can also operate in adverse weather conditions.

Since the normalization of their relations in December 2020, Morocco and Israel have strengthened their military cooperation. In 2021, Morocco purchased several Harop drones from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for $22 million.

That same year, the kingdom signed an agreement with the Israeli company BlueBird Aero Systems for the purchase of WanderB drones for $50 million, according to the official magazine of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces. Morocco continues to strengthen its army. This summer, it is said to have deployed kamikaze drones in the Smara region.
