Morocco Expands Highway Network with New Interchange and Casablanca Bypass Projects

Tuesday, February 25 was a very busy day for the Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water. Abdelkader Amara proceeded not only to the inauguration of the new Oum Azza interchange, but also to the launch of the second phase of the Casablanca-Berrechid highway tripling project, and the Casablanca bypass highway.
The new interchange was built by Moroccan Motorways. It aims to better serve the city of Rabat and its suburbs, while improving the fluidity and safety conditions of traffic. The Oum Azza interchange will have the merit of participating in the transformation of this constantly developing area, and above all, of optimizing the movements of its inhabitants.
The construction work on the interchange was carried out in 30 months for an amount of 72 million dirhams. In detail, it is equipped with six toll lanes for traffic to and from Casablanca, and two lanes for traffic to and from Salé.
As for the work on the second phase of the Casablanca-Berrechid highway tripling project and the Casablanca bypass highway, the launch of which took place the same day, it concerns highway sections that carry quite significant traffic. The project, divided into two, was awarded to large Moroccan construction companies.
In addition to allowing the widening of the lanes, the project provides for specific work that could limit the inconvenience caused to customers-users of the Casablanca-Berrechid highway and the Casablanca bypass highway.
