Morocco Expands Health Insurance and Pension Coverage to Self-Employed Professionals

The Council of Government has adopted the draft law on the application of the laws on the Compulsory Basic Health Insurance Scheme and the pension scheme for the categories of professionals, self-employed workers and non-salaried persons engaged in a liberal activity.
The demand of professional associations and trade unions is now taken into account by the Moroccan Government Council. The adoption of the draft law on the application of the laws on the Compulsory Basic Health Insurance Scheme and the pension scheme aims to provide social coverage to several categories of professionals, self-employed workers and non-salaried persons engaged in a liberal activity.
Among these are doctors, dentists, biologists, pharmacists, nurses, midwives, rehabilitation, rehabilitation and vocational rehabilitation professionals, health product suppliers, etc.
Other professional categories will also benefit from health insurance. These include legal and judicial professions, natural persons engaged in activities in the fields of finance, accounting and insurance, construction and public works, expertise, auditing and consulting as well as in the transport trades.
In total, nearly 11 million Moroccans (insured and dependents) will enjoy medical coverage.
