Morocco Expands Health Coverage to 5 Million Self-Employed Workers Amid Pandemic

The Moroccan government plans to set up medical coverage for self-employed workers. The aim is to help them mitigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
This project concerns five million self-employed workers as well as dependents, which will benefit a total of nearly 11 million Moroccans.
The Minister of Labor and Professional Integration, Mohamed Amekraz, states that more than 90% of Moroccans will benefit from social security after the implementation of laws 98.15 and 99.15. The latter relate to social security coverage and the pension scheme for the categories of liberal professionals, self-employed workers and non-salaried persons engaged in a liberal activity.
It should be noted that all the operational decisions relating to these two laws are already in force due to the promulgation of the two decrees. The first concerns adults and the second concerns midwives and physiotherapists. Meanwhile, consultations are continuing with the categories of merchants, transport professionals (taxis), farmers, craftsmen and tourist guides, in order to promulgate the relevant decrees.
