Morocco Expands Gendarmerie Patrols to Enforce Coronavirus Lockdown Measures

The general command of the Royal Gendarmerie has deployed gendarmes in the provinces not yet affected by the coronavirus, so that they can be patrolled. They have already arrested citizens who have violated the lockdown measures.
The gendarmerie elements, positioned at the entrances of cities and in the provinces of Chefchaouen, Safi, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, Sidi Bennour, Nouacer, Jerada, Guercif, Boulemane, Smara, Assa-Zag, Tan-Tan, Laâyoune and Tarfaya, have received numerous reinforcements, reports Al Massae. They are redoubling their vigilance and working to apprehend people who violate the state of health emergency, particularly by traveling from one city to another.
To date, 40 individuals have been arrested in the Eastern region. Among them, several private ambulance drivers who were transporting passengers between Casablanca and Safi or between Marrakech and Safi, fake ambulance drivers, grand taxi drivers, as well as other offenders in the Eastern region. These offenders have all been prosecuted for various offenses and referred to justice.
The gendarmes have also arrested several citizens who left their homes without the circulation permit issued by the Ministry of the Interior.
