Morocco Expands COVID-19 Vaccination to Teens, Aims for High Student Coverage

Since August 31, Morocco has expanded the national Covid-19 vaccination campaign to adolescents aged 12 to 17 years. As of September 10, 2021, some 646,228 adolescents have already received their first dose of the vaccine.
By targeting the youngest, Morocco intends to increase the vaccination coverage and curb the spread of the coronavirus to the most vulnerable, says Dr. Saïd Afif, president of InfoVac and member of the Technical and Scientific Vaccination Committee.
In his explanations, he stressed that "365,214 students have received a dose of the vaccine developed by the Pfizer-BioNTech laboratory (56.51% of the doses administered), while 281,014 (43.49%) have received a dose of the vaccine developed by the Sinopharm laboratory".
He indicated that with this vaccination, there will be fewer young people aged 12-17 hospitalized or admitted to intensive care because they are suffering from the severe form of Sars-CoV-2.
