Morocco Expands COVID-19 Capacity: New 101-Bed Field Hospital Opens in Agadir

The resurgence of new Covid-19 infections has led to saturation in health centers. In the Souss-Massa region, a new field hospital has been built by the health authorities for better care of Covid-19 patients.

This new hospital has a capacity of 101 beds with all the necessary equipment. It aims to improve the quality of care provided. For the regional director of health, Rachid Keddar, the provision of this center to the medical staff is a major decision, as it now allows to face any possible development of the epidemiological situation in Agadir. According to him, the bed capacity of Hassan II Hospital in Agadir is not negligible to ensure the care of Covid-19 patients.

According to Rachid Keddar, the management of active cases in the area is done with the involvement of the Regional Health Directorate and the Monitoring and Coordination Committees. This participatory management has always made it possible to achieve the feat of reducing the mortality rate in the region. It remains the lowest in Morocco and internationally.

A week ago, the authorities in Agadir strengthened the restrictive measures, following the increase in cases of contamination in recent weeks. Thus, the beaches, the local souks have the obligation to close at 3 p.m. The same goes for hammams and beauty salons, with the exception of hairdressing salons, gyms, parks, and local fields, which must close at 9 p.m.

Cafes, restaurants, stores and large shopping malls at 8 p.m. Bus transportation is also prohibited beyond this time. The authorities have called on business and company leaders in the region to favor remote work.
