Morocco’s Exchange Office Enhances Support for Expatriates Returning Home

The Office of Exchange is committed to welcoming Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) this summer and to giving them special attention as part of its 2022-2026 strategic action plan. This is at least what Driss Bencheikh, its acting director general, affirmed.
For this summer season, the Office of Exchange has strengthened its system of reception, information and support for MREs. "Object of a High and constant Royal solicitude, Moroccans of the world benefit from special attention from the Office of Changes, which has worked, over the years, to put in place an attractive, flexible and advantageous regulatory framework in their favor," said Bencheikh in an interview with the MAP.
The acting director general of the Office of Exchange took this platform to reiterate the institution’s commitment to relaxing exchange regulations and strengthening exchange control operations. The Office intends to intensify its information and awareness-raising actions with MREs and diversify its communication channels.
The Office has not forgotten Moroccan citizens wishing to travel abroad for various reasons (tourism, Umrah and Hajj, medical care, etc.). Appropriate measures have been taken in their favor to guarantee them better flexibility and facilitate their expenses abroad, assured Bencheikh. Since 2022, a single "personal travel allowance" scheme has been put in place. It aims to facilitate Moroccans’ access to foreign currency and fight fraud.
The minimum amount of this allowance is 100,000 dirhams per year per person, with a 30% increase in income tax. The total amount cannot exceed 300,000 dirhams.
