Morocco’s UN Envoy: Guerguerat Border Issue Resolved, Military Defenses Strengthened

Omar Hilale, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated that the problem of the El Guerguerat border crossing post was definitively over.
In an interview with Al-Hurra TV, Omar Hilale said that the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) had extended the defensive line beyond the defense wall and filled all the gaps in order to put an end to all acts of provocation and terrorism. The Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations warned against any transgression in the region, which will receive a rapid response from the FAR. He thus refers to the Polisario and Algeria, its protector.
The FAR elements had intervened in November 2020 to put an end to the actions of the militiamen of the independence movement who had infiltrated the buffer zone of Guergarate in the Moroccan Sahara since October 21, 2020, to carry out acts of banditry, block the movement of people and goods on this road axis.
Since then, the Polisario has claimed that Morocco has violated the 1991 ceasefire agreement and declared war on the kingdom. While the independence movement claims that there is an "open war" in the Sahara, Stéphane Dujarric, the UN spokesperson, assures that the situation is normal. On the ground, the Moroccan army continues to control the area.
