Morocco Ends Fundraising for Repatriation of Deceased Expatriates, Government Assumes Full Cost

Thursday 4 July 2019, by Bladi.net

Collecting donations for the repatriation of deceased Moroccans abroad is now prohibited by the Kingdom of Morocco, which fully assumes this operation, hammered Abdelkrim Benatiq, Minister of Moroccans Residing Abroad and Migration Affairs.

There is no more question of collecting money to repatriate any Moroccan citizen of the diaspora who has died. The Kingdom takes charge of all repatriations of the remains of Moroccans Residing Abroad to their homeland. This new development is announced by the Minister in charge, Abdelkrim Benatiq. From his statements, reported by Le 360, we learn that the trifling sum of thirty-five million dirhams is spent each year by Morocco for these operations.

Thus, according to him, for the past ten years, nearly 197 million dirhams have been released to ensure all these repatriations, reports the daily Assabah, in its publication of Thursday, July 4. This decision by the Minister discourages more than ever the scammers who make a lot of money on the remains of their compatriots.

This is the place to recall the efforts of the Kingdom for the benefit of Moroccans of the World. Their children, recalls the Minister, benefit from vacation camps. Consequently, more than 500 children have been privileged by this vacation program, said the authority who was answering oral questions from advisers to the Second Chamber of Parliament.

We must not lose sight of the right to affordable housing and vocational training, granted to the immigrant, like any other citizen.

Moreover, the same source informs, Abdelkrim Benatiq recalled the efforts made by the Kingdom for the regularization of immigrants, facilitated by the revision of certain laws: 50,000 immigrants have benefited from the regularization of their situation in Morocco, which allows them to enroll their children (6,000 children of immigrants) in Moroccan schools, stressed the Minister.
