Morocco emerges as the new preferred destination for Russian diesel
Morocco has ranked among the world’s leading importers of Russian diesel in March. Despite a decline in Moscow’s exports due to drone attacks on its ports, the Kingdom maintains very significant maritime supply flows.
Morocco has emerged, along with Ghana and Syria, as one of the preferred destinations for Russian diesel transported by sea. In March, Russia’s total exports reached around 3.06 million tons, however, marking a 3% decline compared to the previous month. This overall slowdown is part of a context of growing logistical tensions for Russian suppliers.

This decrease is explained by major disruptions in the port infrastructure of the Baltic Sea, targets of drone attacks. In Primorsk, a key point of exports, diesel volumes fell by 2.6% after a fire in a storage depot. The pace of shipments also remains slowed by technical constraints, including the ban on access for ships without ice-resistant hulls.

To the south, the port of Novorossiysk experienced a 16% drop in its exports due to hostile weather and persistent security threats. While Turkey and Brazil remain Moscow’s top customers, cargoes are increasingly being diverted to floating storage near Egypt or Cyprus. These ship-to-ship transfers are intensifying to make up for the lack of tankers and the strengthening of international sanctions.
