Morocco Emerges as Budget-Friendly Hotspot for British Tourists, Eclipsing Traditional European Getaways

De nombreux touristes britanniques délaissent les destinations européennes populaires comme l’Espagne, le Portugal et l’Italie pour passer des vacances abordables et de qualité au Maroc.
The Moroccan market is increasingly attracting British tourists due to its warm climate year-round, rich cultural heritage, and affordable cost of living. According to Cirium, airlines are recording a sharp increase in flights departing British airports to North Africa, particularly Morocco, Egypt, and Tunisia. Travel agencies also note a significant shift in the preferences of British travelers, who are increasingly opting for vacations in Morocco due to the competitive prices of tourism services.
This year, 19,847 flights are expected to depart British airports to North Africa, more than double the 8,653 flights recorded in 2019. Meanwhile, flights to Spain and Portugal are expected to increase by 10% and 9% respectively over the same period. British holidaymakers prefer Morocco to Egypt due to its geographical proximity: a flight between London and Marrakech takes an average of 3 hours and 45 minutes.
TUI has indicated in March that the demand for Morocco is exploding. According to the online booking platform Booking.com, searches for Egypt and Morocco have increased by 64% and 39% respectively between January and May of this year, compared to the same period in 2024, while they have increased by 68% for Tunisia. British tourists also prefer to enjoy good times in Albania, which they consider "more beautiful than Greece and much cheaper".
