Morocco’s Education Minister: COVID-19 Clusters ’Natural’ as Lockdown Eases

Saaid Amzazi, government spokesperson and Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, was the guest of the television news of the first national channel Al Oula on Sunday. On this occasion, he described the appearance of epidemic clusters at the end of the confinement as a "natural fact".
According to the minister, who cites the opinion of the WHO, the appearance of isolated outbreaks during the easing or lifting of confinement is a normal and natural situation. He continues and calls for individual and collective responsibility for a gradual deconfinement. And he adds that it is now necessary to live with the virus and respect the preventive measures. Regarding the epidemic outbreaks that appeared in certain units specialized in the packaging of berries in the Gharb region, Amzazi reassures. According to him, it is an isolated case and the situation is under control following the closure of the units concerned and the rapid transfer of cases to a reference health center.
He also calms the opinion that this is not a step backwards to counter the virus. He declares in this regard that the second stage of the plan to ease the health lockdown will not be stopped despite some restrictions related to access to beaches and domestic tourism. The government spokesperson also stated that the return to normal life (3rd phase) requires respect for preventive measures and requires greater control of the situation thanks to individual and collective commitment.
Finally, the guest of the news program pointed out that the economy of a large city like Casablanca cannot be held hostage to the number of recorded infection cases.
