Morocco’s Economy Rebounds with 7.9% Growth in 2021, Led by Agriculture Surge

In 2021, the Moroccan economy withstood exogenous shocks, recording a growth of 7.9%, after a deep recession of 7.2% in 2020 linked in particular to the health crisis, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
This progress is attributable to the 17.8% increase in agricultural activity, following an exceptional agricultural season, and 6.6% in non-agricultural activities, explained the HCP in an information note on the provisional national accounts for the year 2021.
According to the figures, the primary sector recorded strong growth of 17.6%, following the increase in agricultural activity (+17.8%) and that of fishing (+12.7%). At the same time, the value added of the secondary sector increased by 6.8% due to the improvement in the value added of construction and public works (10.7%).
As for the tertiary sector, it recorded an increase of 6.4% after a decline of 7.9% in 2020. It is marked by the increase in accommodation and catering activities (31.6%), transport and storage (15.2%), research and development and business services (10%), trade and vehicle repair (7.9%), financial and insurance services (4.6%), real estate services (3%) and education, health and social action services (3%).
