Morocco Eases Lockdown as Experts Urge Caution Against COVID-19 Resurgence

According to the report by epidemiologist Jaafar Heikel, Moroccans will have to learn to live with the virus for a few more months, after the lockdown.
The epidemiologist affirms the day after the start of the gradual implementation of the plan to ease the lockdown that Morocco has prepared well to manage the crisis. Similarly, the easing of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic should not encourage a resurgence of the disease.
According to the specialist, the probability that some confined carriers will become transmitters when they leave the confinement is low. In addition, the expert also looked at the health system’s ability to manage a flow of patients if necessary.
As for people at high risk of infection, Heikel draws attention to the elderly and/or vulnerable people and those suffering from chronic diseases, who, according to him, need to be prioritized, through telemedicine and applications like "Wiqaytna" for tracing coronavirus infections.
The epidemiologist concludes by stressing the importance of screening, awareness-raising, health education and above all the involvement of public and private health professionals in care planning.
