Morocco Eases Import Rules for Expats: Used Furniture and Appliances Now Duty-Free

The Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Trade has lifted the restrictions on the import by Moroccans residing abroad of used wooden furniture, carpets and other used household appliances.
Effective November 13, the measure restricting the import of these used furniture and items has been lifted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. An import license is no longer required to import used wooden furniture, used mattresses and bedding items, used carpets and floor coverings, and used household appliances into Morocco.
In a circular, the Director General of Customs and Indirect Taxes, Abdellatif Amrani, informed his services of the new order of the Minister of Industry and Trade that has enshrined the lifting of this measure. "Thus, under Article 1 of this new order, the import of used carpets and floor coverings, used wooden furniture, used mattresses and bedding items, and used household appliances is no longer subject to an import license," the note states.
This decision is welcomed by Moroccans residing abroad who regularly send used products to their families in Morocco and had been affected by these import restrictions, which had been introduced following the proliferation of bed bugs in some European countries like France.
