Morocco Eases Entry Rules for Children of Expatriates Without Citizenship

Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation, has settled the issue of access to the territory for the children of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) who do not have Moroccan nationality.
"I went to the Moroccan consulate in Paris to renew my national ID card. I took the opportunity to ask them if my 5-year-old son has the right to come back with me to Morocco, they told me no because he has no document proving that he is Moroccan, knowing that his father and I have dual nationality, but we did not register the little one at the Moroccan consulate at his birth," recounts an MRE in a post on social media. Like her, there are many of these dual nationals who find themselves in the same situation.
In order to solve this recurring problem, Nasser Bourita has not only provided clarification but also taken certain measures. "Children are not required to have Moroccan nationality. It is enough that one parent is Moroccan for the child to be considered as such and therefore can access the territory without any problems," he explained to L’Observateur du Maroc.
The minister assures "that instructions have been given to the consulates, to RAM and to the authorities at the arrival airports to unblock this process".
