Morocco Earthquake Death Toll Surpasses 1,000 as Rescue Efforts Continue

The number of deaths following the earthquake that occurred on Friday evening in several Moroccan provinces has been revised upwards by the Moroccan authorities.
According to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior, the disaster has caused "1,037 deaths and 1,204 injured, including 721 seriously," all counted up to 1:00 pm on Saturday. The Secretary General of the Directorate General of Internal Affairs of the ministry also detailed the distribution of the victims, noting for example 542 deaths in the province of Al Haouz and 321 in that of Taroudant.
In response to the tragedy, the Royal Armed Forces, local authorities and law enforcement agencies are actively mobilizing to provide aid and assistance. The civil protection teams are also on the ground in the various affected prefectures and provinces, deploying "all the means of intervention to provide the necessary assistance and assess the damage," according to the same ministerial source.
The mobilization is therefore total to come to the aid of the affected populations and to cope with the consequences of this natural disaster.
