Morocco Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 632, Hundreds Injured in Marrakech Region

The toll of the earthquake that shook the Marrakech province and other regions of Morocco on Friday evening is worsening.
According to a provisional toll announced this morning by the Ministry of the Interior, 632 people lost their lives in the provinces and prefectures of Al Haouz, Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Azilal, Chichaoua and Taroudant. The province of Al Haouz is the most affected with 290 deaths, followed by Taroudant where 190 people were killed.
With a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale, this seismic shock not only cost human lives, but also left in its wake 329 injured. Among them, 51 are in critical condition, the ministry specified. Significant material damage has also been recorded in "a set of areas".
Faced with this disaster, local authorities, security and civil protection services have been urgently mobilized. All intervention resources have been deployed to provide "the necessary assistance" and assess the extent of the damage in the affected provinces.
