Morocco doubles its neighbors and becomes Africa’s 2nd mining hub
Morocco has risen to 15th place in the world in mining attractiveness, becoming the second most sought-after destination in Africa. Driven by the improvement of its public policies, the country is showing a notable progression according to recent industry data.
According to the Fraser Institute’s Annual Survey of Mining Companies for 2025, the Kingdom has achieved a score of 78.97 out of 100. This performance, up 4.27 points, is based on an Attractiveness Index combining geological potential and perception of public policies. On the continent, only Botswana now surpasses Morocco.

This rise in power is explained by a much more favorable perception of government policies, which gains 6.59 points, as well as an improvement in mineral potential. The survey, conducted among 256 companies between August and November, highlights a growing international confidence in the Moroccan regulatory framework and infrastructure.
However, challenges remain to turn this trial into a long-term success. Investors point to the quality of geological databases and the efficiency of the legal system. Uncertainty about the application of certain regulations also remains a point of vigilance to strengthen national competitiveness.

To maintain this trajectory, the transparency and reliability of geographic data will be essential to secure new partnerships in a globalized market.
