Morocco to Dissolve Underperforming Public Agencies in Economic Reform Push

Mohamed Benchaâboun, Minister of Economy, Finance and Public Administration Reform, confirmed on Tuesday the imminent disappearance of certain public institutions and companies. This is one of the reforms that King Mohammed VI had announced in his throne speech on July 29.
"As part of this structural reform of public institutions and companies, a new organizational and legal framework will be implemented to put an end to the existence of certain public agencies," the minister said, presenting the draft decree-law on the latest royal guidelines on economic recovery before the Economy Committee of the House of Representatives.
Mr. Benchaâboun said that some agencies will disappear either because of dysfunctions in their management or because their performance is no longer appropriate to the situation. Others, on the other hand, will be merged.
On July 29, King Mohammed VI had called for a deep and comprehensive reform of public institutions and companies, which must be implemented "diligently to correct the structural dysfunctions of these agencies.
"To this end, we call for the creation of a National Agency whose mission will be to ensure the strategic management of state shareholdings and to monitor the performance of public institutions," the sovereign had declared.
