Morocco to Digitize Customs Clearance Nationwide, Boosting Trade Efficiency

The generalization of the dematerialization of the customs clearance circuit will be effective from January 1st next year, indicates the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes (ADII).
This dematerialization is part of the simplification of procedures and the lightening of customs formalities for the benefit of economic operators, freight forwarders and institutional partners, and aims to ensure greater speed to foreign trade flows and increase the transparency and competitiveness of the company internationally.
"The approach will further facilitate customs formalities and avoid unnecessary trips for companies. (...) the simplification of procedures and the lightening of customs formalities have always been among the top priorities of the ADII," says Ahmed Jaid, director of customs at the Port of Casablanca and head of the customs clearance dematerialization project, who recalls that "the switch to full digital will also have to result in the realization of all payments, including customs duties and taxes, elsewhere than at the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes, the objective being to eliminate cash payments and even by check".
