Morocco Develops First Domestically-Produced Ventilator Amid Pandemic

A team of 20 researchers, academics and industrialists has manufactured a 100% Moroccan artificial respirator.
This team is made up of executives from the Ministry of Industry, GIMAS, the National Institute of Posts and Telecommunications, the Moroccan Center for Science, Innovation and Research (MASCIR), the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency, the Electronics and Mechatronics Innovation Cluster, and the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.
"We made sure to use components available on the Moroccan market to accelerate the manufacturing process, in coordination with the aerospace company, the National Institute of Posts and Telecommunications or the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University," explains Said Benhajjou, president of the Electronics, Mechatronics and Mechanics Cluster of Morocco.
According to him, this 100% Moroccan expertise makes it possible to create a prototype that works with or without electricity. In addition, the device, equipped with new functions, operates continuously, with an autonomy of 3,000 hours.
"We are ensuring the smooth running of the initiatives taken in the fight against covid-19. Our mission was to create a 100% Moroccan respirator by national skills. That’s why this process brings together researchers, universities and aerospace companies," said Naoufel Azami, a research professor in electronics.
