Morocco Destroys 1.5 Hectares of Mint Crops Contaminated with Illegal Pesticides

In the localities of Khoualka and Ras El Aïn, both under the province of Youssoufia, a team from the regional directorate of ONSSA, accompanied by local authorities and gendarmerie elements, has just proceeded to the destruction of more than one and a half hectares of mint crops unfit for consumption.
Destruction of more than one and a half hectares of mint crops contaminated with unapproved pesticides. This is the major act just taken by the regional directorate of ONSSA.
Indeed, according to the daily Al Massae of this Tuesday, June 4, the ONSSA team, alerted by the discovery of contaminated mint in several plots across other regions of the country, went to the locality of Khoualka, which is a major mint producer, for precautionary analysis on mint plant samples.
The results of these analyzes, according to Le360, quickly confirmed "the presence of a high rate of unapproved plant protection products that could be very harmful to human and animal health". It was then that the provincial services in charge of health and consumer protection proceeded to the immediate destruction of several plots of contaminated mint.
To avoid the repetition of such a situation in the future, the same source reports that the farmers in the region have been made aware and initiated in good phytosanitary practices and the rational use of approved products in order to preserve public health.
