Morocco Deploys 552 Advanced Radars to Boost Road Safety Nationwide

The Moroccan government has deployed hundreds of radars in different regions of the kingdom, in order to more effectively combat road insecurity and develop responsible behavior among road users.

Since January 2022, the Narsa has initiated the national road control plan for the 2022-2024 period. In this sense, it launched the "Fixed Radars" operation in the same month. In total, 552 "made in Germany" new generation radars have been installed in the different regions of the kingdom, particularly on the road axes known to be the most accident-prone in the country: 204 traffic light and speed control radars in urban areas, 72 average speed control radars on the motorway network and 276 speed control radars outside urban areas on national and regional roads, reports La Vie éco. Subsequently, 140 devices were installed in the 12 regions of the kingdom.

These radars make it possible to ensure control of speeding, but also to record infractions of non-compliance with the red light, crossing of the continuous line, or driving on prohibited lanes. They can also detect a passenger not wearing a seatbelt and monitor up to 24 vehicles at the same time, in addition to their ability to control the average speed of vehicles on sections that can extend over several kilometers on the highways. In addition to the fixed radars, mobile radars have also been deployed in the regions of the kingdom. These are 120 latest generation mobile radars received by the Royal Gendarmerie and 110 750 CC and 20 1,250 CC mopeds donated to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

In addition to the deployment of radars, the government has digitized the processing of offenses. Data processing is done at the National Offense Processing Center in Rabat. From the headquarters of this center, sworn controllers ensure the detection of offenses, the taking of images and the identification of the vehicle owner.
