Morocco's Dental Tourism Boom: Luxury Smiles at a Fraction of European Prices

Dental tourism in Morocco has been in vogue for a few years among European travelers, especially Spaniards. This is due to the low prices practiced in the kingdom in terms of dental care.

In Morocco, these prices are 70 to 80% lower than those practiced in clinics in Spain, the United States, France or the United Kingdom. Some tour operators and specialized agencies offer complete packages including accommodation, transfers, guided tours and dental care in cities like Agadir, Casablanca, Marrakech and Tangier. Tourists are cared for in private clinics offering modern dental treatments, equipped with CAD/CAM technology, 3D digital scanners and staffed by medical personnel trained in European universities or with international experience.

In the specialized clinics of Agadir, implants cost around 900 euros and root canals or crowns, 120 to 250 euros, compared to 2,500 to 3,000 euros for implants and 400 to 800 euros for crowns in the United Kingdom or France, according to the NewHolidays website, which invites you to discover Agadir, "the jewel of dental tourism in Morocco". "I paid less than half of what I would have paid in the UK for implants and I was able to enjoy the sun and the sea, I recommend Agadir," says James H. from the UK on the site. "The Technopole clinic was impeccable, with very professional staff and the Invisalign treatment was perfect from start to finish," confirms Laura T., a French woman. "My ZOOM whitening treatment gave me instant results and I had time to explore the city with my family," says Adam R., a German tourist.

In Marrakech, a major tourist destination, and Casablanca, the economic capital of the kingdom, dental tourism is also booming. Packages including accommodation and affordable dental care are offered to tourists, according to the dentavacation website, which indicates that an implantology (a technique to rehabilitate a complete upper or lower dental arch with only four implants) would cost 4,200 euros in Morocco compared to 21,000 euros in the United States and Canada and 14,000 euros in the United Kingdom. In Tangier, on the other hand, this phenomenon is very little perceptible.

The most requested treatments by travelers are implants, aesthetic veneers, porcelain crowns and full reconstructions, notes El Debate. A dental implant in Morocco costs between 650 and 1,100 euros, according to Esthetique Dentaire Marrakech, compared to 2,000 to 3,500 euros in the United Kingdom, according to TKC Denta. In Spain, the price of a complete dental implant varies between 1,000 and 2,500 euros per unit. In addition, dental tourism raises questions, particularly about follow-up in case of complications after the return of patients to their home countries. It is "unconsciousness," says Dr. Óscar Castro Reino, president of the General Council of Dentists of Spain, warning about the short and long-term consequences of dental treatment performed abroad.
