Morocco Delays Vote on Cannabis Legalization Bill for Second Time

Meeting this Thursday, March 4, 2021 by videoconference under the chairmanship of the Head of Government, Saâd Eddine El Othmani, the Government Council again postponed the examination of the draft law on the legalization of cannabis, announced the Minister of National Education, government spokesperson, Saaid Amzazi.
After being the subject of a previous postponement on February 25, the examination of the draft law relating to the legal uses of cannabis will take place at a later meeting.
Once legalized, the use of cannabis will be regulated and governed exclusively by a specialized National Agency. This will allow the Kingdom to benefit from a real economic opportunity.
This specialized National Agency will have to regulate activities related to cannabis cultivation, such as production, manufacturing, marketing or transportation. It will issue authorizations and will be the sole interlocutor of international bodies, it is specified.
According to studies carried out on the development of legal cannabis, an average growth of 30% worldwide and 60% in Europe is expected.
